Motorcycle Accidents

With more than 254 million vehicles on the road across the US, it’s no surprise that auto accidents have become a way of life. Auto accidents can have dire consequences ranging from the loss of your mode of transportation to the loss of life.

If you find yourself in an auto accident, here are some quick tips to consider:

  • Make sure everyone is OK. Even a seemingly minor accident can be very frightening and at a minimum can rattle your nerves and make it hard to think clearly.
  • If you have a cell phone, as most people do, dial 911 right away. 911 operators are trained to direct you on what to do and can advise you as to whether to stay put or try to move the vehicles out of the way. They can also call out the type of help you need.
  • If someone is injured, there are so many variables that are beyond the focus of this guide so it may be wise to schedule yourself for some first aid training soon.
  • If everyone is alright, try to clear your head and start to gather information. You will need things like the name of the other driver, the make, year and model of their vehicle. If you have a phone that takes pictures, try to capture images that will make it clear what happened. But BE CAREFUL! Don’t get so caught up in taking pictures that you put yourself in danger by not paying attention to oncoming traffic or other dangers that might be near the scene.
  • Call your insurance company, ideally before leaving the scene and follow their advice.

This may also be a good time to give us a call. Sorting out an auto accident can be like untangling a ball of yarn. There may be important information you will need that may not be available later or the insurance companies may try to convince you to give up your right to be made whole just to make a quick claim. If you were injured, you should be made whole and often times that means retaining us to ensure that happens.
