Offshore Accidents

In South Louisiana, living on and around the water is just a way of life. Many of us make our living on the water in the operation of the numerous vessels that service the oil and gas industry, harvest our seafood or move materials and manpower along the numerous waterways and the Gulf of Mexico.

Special rules often apply to accidents that occur over the water including Jones Act, the Long Shore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act and the Federal Employers Liability Act that determine the level of compensation to which you may be entitled. While every situation is different, typically your claim will be a maritime claim if it occurred in relation to any of these operations:

  • Supply boats
  • Tug boats
  • Cargo ships
  • Barges
  • Oil and gas workers
  • Those who work in the Gulf of Mexico or the Mississippi River
  • And others
